When recycling operations can’t find buyers for plastic waste, it can end up in our oceans. That’s why PADI is not only committed to minimizing our use of plastic, we upcycle recycled plastic into new items such as certification cards.

mako shark greeting
Mako Greeting by Rafael Fernandez

Award-winning underwater photographer Rafael Fernandez and shark conservationist Gádor Muntaner were wrapping up a shark and photo workshop off the seaside town Bermeo, Spain, when this mako shark appeared in the late afternoon glow. When asked about this shot, Fernandez said he wanted to play with the warm colors of the sunbeams while waiting for the right moment to frame the shark and the sun almost in the sunset. This animal is endangered and according to some scientific studies it will be extinct in a few decades. So, we were really lucky to see it.

Rafael shared this key message: Let's enjoy the sea with respect and love, aiming to share its marvels with the rest of the world and do everything possible to protect it.

seahorse
Seahorsin' Around by Rafael Fernandez

A seahorse sighting shows what the future may hold for Mar Menor saltwater lagoon in Marcia, Spain. Mar Menor was a coastal treasure brimming with biological richness but collapsed after four decades of nitrate and phosphate contamination from nearby agriculture.

Ocean advocate and acclaimed underwater photographer Rafael Fernandez explained:
This natural paradise has been ignored, going from being the world's most densely populated area for seahorses to a graveyard with a sad and uncertain future. This should serve as a lesson and a small-scale example of what could happen in the Mediterranean on a larger scale in the coming years if we do not act immediately. But we still have time to save both seas.

underwater cenote
Underwater Illumination by Tom St. George

A diver explores the crystal clear waters of Cenote Pit near Tulum, Mexico. Professional photographer and cave diver Tom St. George captures the allure of the underwater world in this dreamy aquatic composition.

Tom shares this key message: As scuba divers, I think we have a responsibility to help protect our oceans and freshwater ecosystems. Support PADI AWARE or Coral Reef Alliance initiatives, advocate for reducing plastic waste, support sustainable seafood choices, and promote the use of reef-safe sunscreen.

Can I order a PADI replacement card as a gift or for someone other than myself?

Absolutely, PADI replacement cards are a thoughtful way to commemorate a special dive trip or scuba diving milestone.

You need to sign in to your PADI account to purchase a replacement PADI certification card (physical or eCard). Each person with their own account should sign in individually to purchase a replacement card. If you have family members who wish to purchase a replacement card, sign out of your PADI account, then have each person sign in to their own account to make the purchase and sign out of their account once the purchase is complete. This will ensure that the details for each replacement card are accurate and purchased eCards will display in the correct PADI account. To purchase for another diver, contact a PADI Dive Center or Resort.
